Paçô fort (17th century)

The Montedor Fort, also known as Fort of Paçô or Carreço, rises over the rock massif, next to the beach “of the English” or Paçô beach, a few meters from the Atlantic Ocean.

It fits in the time of construction of the Areosa fortress, that is, during the Restoration wars (1640-1689), with which it crossed fire. Its conclusion dates from 1703. This relevant example of the military architecture of the "vianês" coast was part of a defensive line strategically built on the banks of the Minho River and along the Atlantic coast.

It has been classified as a monument of national interest since 1967.
