Conferência final Biénio Ação Climática

Aspiring Geopark Viana do Castelo took part in the closing conference of the "Biennium for Climate Action in Portuguese Geoparks".

On 12 June, the Viana do Castelo Geopark, an aspiring member of the World Geoparks Network, took part in the Closing Conference of the "Biennium for Climate Action in Portuguese Geoparks", which was held in Covilhã, the territory of the Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark .

This Closing Conference marks the culmination of 2 years of collaboration between the 6 Portuguese UNESCO Global Geoparks and the two geoparks aspiring to this designation, the UNESCO National Commission and Turismo de Portugal, in promoting the "Biennium for Climate Action in Portuguese Geoparks" project, designed to foster new approaches, strategies and tools for adapting and mitigating climate change in these territories, making the Geoparks more resilient and adapted to this reality.


On 13 June there was also a meeting of the Portuguese Network of UNESCO Global Geoparks in Monsanto, part of the Naturtejo UNESCO Global Geopark, during which the 5th meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Portuguese Network of UNESCO Global Geoparks was held, chaired by Dr. José Moraes Cabral, ambassador to the Portuguese UNESCO National Commission. José Moraes Cabral, ambassador of the UNESCO National Commission - Portugal with the support of its executive secretary Dr Rita Brasil de Brito, at which the Declaration of the Portuguese Geoparks for Climate Action 2025 was presented and validated as a way of promoting efforts for Climate Action in the Portuguese Geoparks and a commitment to carry out joint actions.


These two days were marked by the sharing of good practices in the various territories and the commitment to continue working together, fostering networking and the affirmation of these UNESCO territories.
