The Kink Bands correspond to bands, transversal to the shales planar foliation, which result from the juxtaposition of the flanks of the kink folds (folds similar to monoclinals). The late deformation resulting from the collisional process between Laurentia, Avalonia and Gondwana is the reason why these structures occur here at the Natural Monument of Pedras Ruivas.
