The parish of Montaria, a low-density territory of Viana do Castelo and the highest point of the county, has a unique natural and cultural heritage, connected by 6 pedestrian trails and 2 equestrian trails. The Montaria Walking and Cycling Center is the first unit of the Intermodal Network of Mobility in Nature of Viana do Castelo which is being created and will integrate other units that are being established through partnerships with the managing entities of the Common land of Viana do Castelo, valuing the old Forestry houses.

With the development of the aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark of Viana do Castelo, of which stands out, in this territory, the Municipal Science Network through the International Observatory of Serra de Arga and the Gateways Network, through the Arga Gateway, the Montaria Walking and Cycling Center will constitute a platform that will allow the nature tourist to circulate on foot, bicycle or horseback between the multiple centres (gateway and observatory), and notable areas of nature and local culture, taking advantage of the spaces and opportunities for education and literacy the interpretation infrastructures, already installed, can provide.

As a bet of the Intermunicipal Community and the 10 Municipalities of Alto Minho, the Montaria Walking and Cycling Center will, in articulation with the others, provide the physical connection between the network of the ten mountain villages of Alto Minho, contributing indelibly to the strengthening and positioning of the Alto Minho identity.

Access to the Montaria Walking & Cycling Center is made through a code inserted in the numerical keypad next to the entrance door. To receive an access code, the user must fill in a form. The access code will be valid for 12 hours.
