Garnet | 355 million years

A garnet is an index mineral, these types of minerals document the temperature and pressure conditions under which recrystallization took place. The recognition of a certain paragenesis allows to identify the degree of metamorphism. The paragenesis of garnet, andalusite, cordierite and sillimanite identified in the schists outcrops of this Natural Monument, is the resulting of a low pressure/high temperature contact metamorphism, conditioned by synorogenic granitic intrusions.
