Enclaves (xenoliths) | 385 million years
Enclaves or xenoliths are fragments of another rock (or more) that were included in the igneous rock during its ascent and installation. The granitic rocks of this Natural Monument have some xenoliths of metasedimentary origin and supermicaceous enclaves (biotitic and, occasionally, with some tourmaline). The analysis of the direction of the enclaves and of the fluidalities marked by feldspar-potassium megacrystals is a criterion that helps in the understanding the way of plutonites placing. In the case of this Natural Monument, the fluidalities and enclaves observed here have sub-horizontal or even horizontal trajectories, this fact coincides with the installation model of the Plutonite of Bouça de Frade.
